Discontinued plates are no longer issued by the Nevada DMV. Except for the Big Horn Sheep plate, the plates shown here are still valid for vehicle registration.

The original owner of the plate must keep it continually registered to a vehicle or allow it to expire for less than 30 days. The plate may be transferred to another vehicle but not to another person.

The DMV began issuing the current Sunset design in 2005.

Nevada Commemorative Plate Commemorative - 1989 - October 31, 1990

This specialty plate was issued to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Nevada's admission into the Union. 

Big Horn Sheep License Plate

Big Horn Sheep  - 1983 - 2000

It is illegal to display Big Horn Sheep license plates on a vehicle. Motorists must replace these with the current Sunset design or a specialty plate.
The DMV began issuing the Sunset plate with original registrations in January 2001. Existing Big Horn plates were replaced with Sunset plates in 2002.

1982 Nevada license plate Blue  - 1969 - 1982

Plates issued in the early 1970's abbreviated the state name to "NEV." Plates prior to 1969 were issued in many different designs.
The DMV currently issues replica plates and you may be able to reinstate expired blue plates if they are in good condition. See Circa 1982 Replica plates.
Existing plates do not have to be surrendered.
