Major Improvements for All Motorists Coming Later This Fall
Auto dealers and other businesses which are licensed by the Department of Motor Vehicles and Public Safety are the first to see results from Project Genesis, a seven-year, $34,000,000 effort to re-engineer the Nevada DMV.
The DMVs new computer system went online June 1st statewide for all Occupational and Business Licensing functions. This is the first phase of a gradual implementation of the new system for all DMV customers in the coming months. Going hand-in-hand with the new computers is an organizational realignment of the DMV. The end result will be shorter lines and quicker service for all DMV customers.
Auto dealers, their salesman and businesses such as body shops and emissions inspection stations will find the licensing process decentralized and much more efficient.
The major benefit for businesses is that DMV branch offices can now renew business and occupational licenses instantaneously. Renewals were previously processed only in Carson City. All major DMV offices now have windows dedicated to serving business customers. This marks the first phase of the DMVs new "one stop shopping" concept in customer service.
DMV & PS has also revamped its online forms room on the Internet. Drivers license handbooks are now available online as well as forms and information sheets for auto dealers and other licensed businesses. The DMV & PS Internet address is http://www.state.nv.us/dmv_ps/
Project Genesis will result in major changes for the motoring public at large as the computer system and new organization are phased in this summer and fall for all types of DMV transactions.
