The new training video, entitled "It Takes a Little Time Sometimes," was
developed to assist law enforcement investigators statewide who investigate elder abuse
cases. The video is hosted by acclaimed actress and comedian Carol Lawrence and is
produced by Michael Billings Productions. This collaborative project of the State of
Nevada Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.), the Office of the Attorney
General and the Division for Aging Services results from the action plan of the Nevada
Elder Abuse Prevention Council (NEAPC).
"It Takes a Little Time Sometimes" is the third video of a trilogy on elder
abuse recommended by the NEAPC and P.O.S.T. The first video, "Rx for Abuse,"
hosted by Shirley Jones, was directed to the medical community and contains the signs and
indicators of elder abuse. The second tape, "Help is on the Way," hosted by
Robert Conrad, was developed to assist law enforcement officers who are the first to
respond to an elder abuse call.
Dennis Kollar, P.O.S.T. Academy Commander, states that the third and final video in the series will provide all law enforcement investigators with solid techniques to pursue elder abuse cases.
"Elder abuse can be one of the hardest crimes to investigate. We hope that these three tapes will go a long way to assist everyone who must respond to or investigate this serious and sometimes subtle crime."
The 1997 Nevada Legislature recognized the importance of the role of education in preventing and stopping elder abuse and authorized funding for the production of the three elder abuse videos to train the medical and law enforcement communities.
