Advisory: DMV to Sign License Agreement with Taiwan Wednesday

CARSON CITY – Department of Motor Vehicles Director Terri Albertson and Joseph Ma, Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco, will sign a driver’s license reciprocity agreement in a ceremony at the State Capitol.

The agreement allows Taiwan nationals living in Nevada, such as university students, to skip the driving skills test if they are already licensed to drive in Taiwan. It gives the same option to Nevada residents living in Taiwan.

This will be Nevada’s first license reciprocity agreement with a foreign jurisdiction. Also speaking at the ceremony will be Nevada Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske and State Senator Scott Hammond, who spearheaded the enabling legislation for the agreement in the 2015 Legislature.  

The signing ceremony also recognizes the 30th anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Nevada and Taiwan.

The event will be catered with traditional Taiwanese refreshments.  The group will also take a tour of the Legislative Building, which houses two official medallionscommemorating the sister state relationship and a number of paintings donated by Taiwanese artists in the 1990s.
