The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles this week unveiled a new online service for updating insurance information. The Nevada LIVE Insurance Update allows motorists and insurance agents to update policy information online and at kiosks when a motorist changes policies or companies.
The department is also reminding motorists to visit the DMV’s website before coming into an office. Wait times have been rising due to the new Advanced Secure Issuance licensing process and staff shortages caused by state budget cuts.
“It’s important to visit the DMV’s web site first,” said Director Edgar Roberts. “We add new services regularly and you may be able to accomplish your goal online or by mail. If you do have to come in, you’ll come in prepared if you go to the website first.”
Nevada LIVE, short for “Nevada Liability Insurance Validation Electronically,” is an overhaul of the state’s system to verify automobile insurance coverage. Two new applications for insurance companies also went online this week along with a new service for vehicle salvage pools. The DMV can now verify insurance coverage instantly on more than 80 percent of the policies written in Nevada.
