Technician Accused of Theft
Investigators from the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles’ Compliance Enforcement Division arrested 29-year-old Ethan Z. Weeks of Las Vegas on Thursday, March 27th, on 11 charges filed by the Nevada Attorney General’s office.
Weeks was taken into custody without incident at his home in Las Vegas. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a warrant issued by North Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Stephen J. Dahl.
Weeks, who formerly worked at the Carey Avenue DMV office in North Las Vegas, was charged with one count of felony Theft, five counts of Unlawful Use of Public Money and five counts of Misappropriation and Falsification of Accounts by a Public Officer.
Investigators say Weeks falsified accounting records to enable himself to take vehicle registration fees.
The theft charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of $10,000. The other charges each carry a maximum of 4 years in prison and $10,000 fines. If convicted, Weeks could also be ordered to pay restitution.
Weeks left employment with the Department in March, 2002.
“We are confident that no motorist was adversely affected in this case, ” said Director Ginny Lewis. “We will not tolerate criminal activity on the part of department employees. We will cooperate fully to help ensure Weeks is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
