Air-Conditioning a Continuing Problem
For the second day in a row, air-conditioning problems at the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles office in Henderson forced managers to curtail services. The air conditioning unit at the facility at 1399 American Pacific Dr. shut down at approximately 2 p.m.
Computer systems are designed to automatically shut down if the indoor temperature exceeds 100 degrees to protect the hardware. This occurred today at approximately 2:30. The computers were brought back online shortly before 3 p.m.
The customers who remained in the building were then served. Other customers were given return passes, movement permits or the option of visiting another Department office. Employees were sent to other offices as appropriate.
On Monday, July 2nd, an air conditioning failure caused managers to close the facility completely. A crew from the State Buildings and Grounds Division worked through the night Monday to repair the unit and allow the office to open Tuesday morning.
"We regret the inconvenience this has caused our customers," said DMV Field Services Manager Donna West. Buildings and Grounds believes it has identified the air conditioning problem and is working directly with the factory representative. Technical experts from the manufacturer will visit the office Thursday to begin to determine a permanent fix to the problem.
The Henderson DMV is expected to reopen on schedule Thursday following the Independence Day Holiday.
