Director Kirkland to Give Keynote Address to Training Division Cadets

Second class of Training Division Basic Law Enforcement Academy to graduate August 11

After 15 weeks of intense training, twenty-six law enforcement cadets will graduate from the second class of the Department of Motor Vehicles and Public Safety Training Division. Graduation ceremonies will be held in Carson City at 10:00 am, Friday August 11 in the Assembly Chambers at the Legislative Building. The keynote speaker will be DMV&PS Director Richard Kirkland .

"This graduation ceremony marks the successful completion of 15 weeks of intense, live-in training and evaluation by the instructors of the Training Division, said Director Richard Kirkland. "These cadets will now return to their respective Divisions to complete their additional Division specific training and they will then be ready to begin their new careers as law enforcement officers."

Cadets in the Training Division's Basic Law Enforcement Academy stay in Carson City for fifteen weeks and receive 617 hours of classroom and field instruction. Subjects include: Criminal Law, Firearms, Use of Force, Arrest Procedures, Emergency Vehicle Operation, Officer Survival, Search and Seizure, Domestic Violence, Child Abuse and Crisis Intervention and more.

Cadets from the Training Division's second class represent Nevada Highway Patrol and Parole and Probation. NHP cadets will go on to 10 additional weeks of Highway Patrol specific training and Parole and Probation officers will report to their duty assignments to complete an additional 3 weeks of in service training. A complete list of Training Division graduates and their respective Divisions, home towns and duty stations is attached.

The DMV&PS Training Division is responsible for the basic law enforcement training and the continuing education of all the Department's peace officers. Public Safety Divisions for the DMV&PS include the Nevada Highway Patrol, Capitol Police, Nevada Division of Investigation, Parole and Probation and the State Fire Marshal.
