DMV & PS Director Appoints Acting Chief of Parole & Probation

Mr. Clay Thomas was named today as Acting Chief of the Parole and Probation Division by the Director of the Department of Motor Vehicles and Public Safety, John Drew. Mr. Thomas will serve as head of the Division while the open recruitment process for a permanent chief takes place.

Thomas will oversee all statewide functions of the Parole and Probation Division, including: supervision of offenders, pre-sentence investigations, residential confinement programs, sex offender registration, drug testing of offenders, restitution collection and disbursement, dangerous offender notification, interstate compact program, special services unit and pre-release unit.

Mr. Thomas began his law enforcement career with the Reno Police Department in 1979. After 10 years with the Reno Police Department, he moved to the Department of Motor Vehicles and Public Safety, eventually serving as Acting Assistant Chief for the Bureau of Enforcement. He also held the position of Chief of the Registration Division in the Motor Vehicles branch prior to accepting the appointment to Deputy Chief of Parole & Probation in December of 1999. Mr. Thomas replaces former Parole and Probation Chief Carlos Concha who recently retired from state service.
